Stress in children can be due to a number of issues. These issues can range from emotional problems to sensory issues. The issue, and the problem for some people, is figuring out how to deal with the stress in your children and help them as well as you overcome it. Relaxation Methods
The first thing to do is try relaxation methods when your child is stressed. This may seem logical and like a base step, but it is the way you move into relaxation methods. For younger children, you may find that removing them from the situation and taking them to a calm dark place helps. Take them to their bedroom or cuddle with them on the sofa. Read to them, spend some quiet time with them, and do things that remove the sound or the issue from their little world. This works with older children as well and it will help to relax them and get them back into a state of mind where they can handle their stress.
Sensory Methods
Sometimes stress in children can be sensory related. They can get overwhelmed with noise, crowds, homework, or any number of things. Just like when adults get overwhelmed so can children. There are a number of ways to deal with this. One of the ways is to create a safe space for sensory. This is usually a dark room where you have colored lights like holiday lights. You can turn them on and help your child calm down. You can also use methods like removing all noise and sounds, turning on certain sounds, or letting your child tell you what helps them. Keep in mind, the idea of this is to bring their sensory back to a normal level and help them acclimate to their surroundings to deal with their stress and learn how to deal with it later as well.
Essential Oil Methods
When removing the child from the stress, offering relaxation methods, and refocus their sensory issues doesn’t work then you may have to turn to essential oils. You can diffuse certain calming oils, like lavender and vetiver, in a diffuser or you can place it topically on your children at pulse points. You can even spray a diluted essential oil onto your children’s bed sheets and blankets to help reduce stress at night.
